A WILD future for digital art?

What’s happening?

Wildxyz, an exciting web3 art initiative dedicated to pushing the boundaries of digital art, particularly in the realm of 3D creation, launched its first “Wild Oasis” auction on November 30th. However, art drops are just one aspect of its programming - which will in fact centre around a Residency program that will up-skill artists.

Why does it matter?

In a Twitter space earlier this week, Wild founder Douglass outlined a vision where artists build the metaverse from the ground up, rather than one in which corporations design spaces for art to exist in. Wild’s innovative focus will hopefully transform the current landscape of virtual exhibitions away from recreating 2D IRL spaces, towards as yet unimaginable futures.

Today's edition of The NFT Innovation Digest is brought to you by evaluate.xyz

Evaluate Market rebrands to evaluate.xyz and makes NFT trading on Flow and Ethereum simple, safe, and social. Evaluate is a web3 platform where NFT collectors can find trading partners and swap NFTs, track their portfolio across multiple blockchains, and get the best deal across popular marketplaces. Over 1.4 million users have used Evaluate since it’s incorporation on March 8th 2021.

We’re thrilled to introduce live NFT swapping on Flow and Ethereum to evaluate.xyz, a single experience that pairs collectors with similar users and allows them to negotiate and execute NFT swaps in a live, trustless manner.

Collectors can queue up on Evaluate and immediately match with another collector where they can sort through their collection and propose trades. To give collectors a way to communicate with each other during the trading process, Evaluate has built-in a chat function that notifies users of changes made to the trade.

Uniswap 💸 Lands

What’s happening?

Earlier this year, we reported on Uniswap's acquisition of NFT marketplace aggregator Genie. This week, historical users of Genie were airdropped approximately 5 million USDC (based on a snapshot from April 15, 2022) and Uniswap launched NFT trading capabilities. At launch, the platform is aggregating listings from OpenSea, X2Y2, LooksRare, Sudoswap, Larva Labs, X2Y2, Foundation, NFT20, and NFTX.

Why does it matter?

In Uniswap's own words, users can expect better price discovery, up to 15% savings on gas costs and more broadly this is the first step towards building more interoperable experiences between NFTs and ERC-20 tokens. Uniswap's front-end code is also open-sourced, continuing its commitment to trustlessness and transparency.

Storyverse switch-up!

What’s happening?

Storyverse, a platform that allows you to create, animate, and share stories that are enacted by NFT characters, has switched to a free-to-create model that removes the need to hold a specific NFT or even to connect a wallet.

Why does it matter?

Identifying that digital wallets are one of the primary barriers preventing web2 users from engaging with NFTs, Storyverse now plans to welcome a much broader audience while simultaneously embracing web3's ethos of decentralization. Watch out for future utilities launching in January  👀

Telegram's decentralized response to FTX

What’s happening?

Telegram's founder Pavel Durov made a series of major announcements this week about Telegram's plans to build a decentralized crypto exchange and a non-custodial wallet. He explicitly addressed the fallout from FTX's collapse as a motivation and stated “The blockchain industry was built on the promise of decentralization, but ended up being concentrated in the hands of a few who began to abuse their power.”

Why does it matter?

Firstly, Telegram is one of the most popular apps in the world, with 700 million monthly active users. Secondly, it indicates a positive route forwards for DeFi in the wake of FTX and the renewed advocacy among crypto and NFT communities for decentralization. Stay tuned!

Porsche piles into web3

What’s happening?

German car manufacturer Porsche teased the launch of an NFT collection of 7,500 customizable cars, designed by 3D artist Patrick Vogel and inspired by the Porsche 911. They are due to land in January, with metaverse and gaming applications already hinted at.

Why does it matter?

Porsche is framing this move as just one step in a serious push into web3, suggesting a wide-ranging approach beyond the traditional web2 NFT cash-grab... According to a spokesperson, “Digital art is just one aspect of Porsche’s Web3 strategy. The sports car manufacturer is working to integrate the potential of blockchain technology into existing and future processes and solutions.”

NFTs to fund sci-fi flick

What’s happening?

Filmmaker Gary Eck has written a new sci-fi film called Amygdala and plans to raise funds and input via 10,000 Ethereum NFTs. Holders will have opportunities to get involved in the production process and get access to the filmmakers. The NFTs will also fund a DAO, with holders deciding how to apply treasury funds (received from the film's cinema and streaming revenue).

Why does it matter?

Industries outside of art are waking up to the potential of NFTs and the myriad use cases, including the traditional entertainment industries. This particular project demonstrates new possibilities in how the relationship between viewers, investors and creators can be structured.

Who is Frank DeGods?!

What’s happening?

This week's Twitter trend has been an unexpected rise in influencers and project founders revealing their IRL identities, including the DeGods founder known online as 'Frank'. He turns out to be a man called Rohun Vora, a UCLA dropout who worked for MainStreet and was part of Y-Combinator (and he's a Frank Ocean mega-fan!).

Why does it matter?

Anonymity has always been synonymous with the crypto space - but also more recently with a spate of rugged NFT projects. This move by Frank / Rohun caused the floor of his projects to shoot up and prompted further reveals, including Dust Labs CEO "Kevin DeGods" who is in fact tech entrepreneur Kevin Henrikson.

OpenSea welcomes BNB

What’s happening?

This week, OpenSea announced that it would support BNB blockchain-based NFTs in Q4 2022, enabling purchasing and listing of BNB NFTs alongside “multiple creator payouts, real-time payouts, collection management, and other benefits”.

Why does it matter?

BNB is one of the largest blockchains by daily active users and is ranked 6th according to NFT activity. Right now BNB does not seriously rival its NFT competitors, but this move will definitely encourage more projects to build on it and shows that OpenSea is continuing its campaign to maintain marketplace dominance by expanding its supported chains and languages.
