Coinbase announced a multi-year partnership with NBA and WNBA, becoming the exclusive cryptocurrency platform partner with the basketball franchises.


  • “We will create interactive experiences to engage with the NBA and WNBA’s incredible community and athletes around the world.” according to Kate Rouch, Chief Marketing Officer of Coinbase;
  • An average of 1.6 million people watched the NBA regular season of 2019-2020 according to data from Statista, Coinbase would be featured during nationally televised NBA games.

Valve, the company behind Steam, updated its onboarding guidelines, adding "Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs." to the list of not allowed by the platform.


  • After Valve banned Crypto and NFT games on Steam, its primary competitor Epic Games Store welcomed blockchain developers and the use of crypto in games.

Facebook is planning to change the company's name to reflect its focus on building the Metaverse. Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, plans to announce the name change at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th.


  • “We will effectively transition from people seeing us as primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company.” said Zuckerberg;
  • Facebook has more than 10,00 employees developing consumer hardware such as AR glasses and VR headsets.

New products and ideas

Sotheby’s launched its NFT auction and minting platform called Sotheby's Metaverse. The platform will allow NFT purchases using ETH, BTC, USDC or fiat.


  • The new platform was developed by Mojito, an NFT compliance platform;
  • The first auction will feature 53 NFTs from 19 collectors, such as Pranksy, J1mmy.eth, and Paris Hilton;
  • Sotheby's has been very involved in the NFT space this year with auctions including CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Genopets, the first "Move-to-Earn" NFT game, where players earn rewards by the steps given in real life, has raised $8.3 million in a seed funding round.


  • The game pulls data from users' phones and converts steps given in the real world into in-game rewards with the goal to provide “passive income to individuals as an incentive to stay physically active.” according to the company CEO;
  • The NFTs required to start the game will be free to mint, unlike games such as Axie Infinity;
  • After starting the game, the users will be able to buy a virtual habitat to increase the earning process, combining free-to-play and play-to-earn styles.

Filecoin became the official store collaborator for the Flow blockchain. Filecoin’s decentralized storage solution will allow creators to create immutable NFT metadata.


  • The collaboration enables FLOW users to mint NFTs, use InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) content addressing, and store tokens using Filecoin's decentralized storage service;
  • As part of the collaboration, Filecoin opened Next Step Microgrants in the amount of $5,000 for each eligible NFT project on FLOW that integrates with IPFS and Filecoin's network.‌
